Jolly Phonics
Jolly Phonics
In Reception we follow Jolly Phonics, which uses a multi sensory approach to the teaching of phonics, each of the 44 phonemes are taught using actions, objects, stories and songs.
The Reception class has covered all the phonemes during the first half of the Autumn term, we are now forming each phoneme grouping the letters according to letter shape, for example: Curly letters, c, o, a, g, d, q, f, s, e. Long letters: i, l, j, t, u, y. Rolling robot letters: n, m, r, p, b, h, k. Zig-zag letters: v, w,x,z.
We have our sound puppet Crispin- who is a very vocal crow. We also use the characters from Jolly Phonics, Inky Mouse, Snake and Bee.
The children use their phonic knowledge to sound, blend and read words. As the children learn the phonemes-s, a, t, p, i, n, in their first week they can begin to sound and blend words at the very beginning. There are lots of words they can make using these letters, for example, s-a-t =sat p-a-t= pat t-i-n=tin s-i-t=sit. etc......
