Welcome to Year 3. 

 

Our topic theme this half term is 'TREASURE.'

 

We started the topic by investigating the contents of a big treasure chest.      

           

This treasure will help to inspire us to write some exciting stories in Big Writing.

 

 

We will look at the different materials that the treasures are made from, and describe their properties.

                                                                 

 

We are reading a pirate story, which gives us scientific problems to solve in our lessons.

 

 

We will study some of the treasures of Ancient Egypt. We will learn about Tutenkhamen, mummies, beliefs about the  afterlife and everyday life for the Ancient Egyptians. We look at some artefacts and use them to help us to learn about the past.

   

 

We will learn about databases, eventually making our own database about the materials we have been studying.

 

Our table names for this term are all precious jewels.

 

Other subjects we shall be studying include:

Literacy - We shall continue to use to Read Write Inc scheme during this half term.

 

Maths - We shall measure to the nearest cm and mm, tell the time, find fractions of shapes and numbers and solve problems. We will continue to work on our class targets of finding bonds to 20 and 100.

 

French - We will be learning some French songs and games. We are hoping to write letters and send Christmas cards to some French-speaking children too!

                          

RE - We are going to learn about the bible and why it is important to Christians.

Year 3 Homework

Spellings are given out on a Monday. The 10 sentences should be handed in on Thursday. Spelling tests are on  a Friday.

Numeracy/Topic homework is given out on a Friday and collected in on the following Monday.
