Welcome to Year 6

Topic Autumn 2 - Small and Mighty.

This half term we shall be studying micro organisms and their negative and positive effect on our lives. We shall be looking at how they make us ill, what we can do to prevent illness and the vaccinations that have been invented to prevent different diseases. We shall be studying the history and effect of the bubonic plague on the village of Eyam . We shall look at Yeast and will be tasting, designing and making different types of bread. Finally we shall be looking at the effect of micro organisms on waste and decay and will be looking at recycling. We shall be working in teams to make rubbish fashion and will be painting different pieces of rubbish.

Spellings

This year we shall be learning spellings, through phonics, following the Read, Write inc. spelling scheme. This will involve 10-15 minutes of spelling work each day. The children keep their own spelling logs of difficult words to learn.

PE

Children are expected to have their PE kits in school every day, although we are timetabled for PE on Wednesday and Friday. We shall be swimming every Monday morning.

This word that will come up a lot in Year 6 as we will spend time making sure that your child is prepared for these tests and have all the skills they need to move onto Secondary school.
